no, it's not; however, it serves as an example of what would happen if somebody was at the top of their game in both boxing, and another form of fighting.

obviously the thread is about a highly trained boxer vs. a highly trained "insert other form of fighting here" in a street fight.

of course a traner boxer would make an average person loomk foolish in a street.

But you're acting like people who train in wing chun, kung fu, taekwando, etc. don't know how to move, dodge, etc.?

I would pick Bruce Lee over Sergio Martinez any day of the week, and twice on sunday in a straight up STREET FIGHT.

actually, i takae that back. the thread is simply about whether or not boxing is effective in street fighting.

obviously, it's very effective because more than likely in a street fight you won't be fighting anybody except somebody with maybe some high school wrestling experience.

But the conversation evolved into how effective boxing would be vs "insert fighting art here" in a STREET FIGHT. . And I simply take a staunch position that a black belt in wing chun, kung fu, etc. would be able to make a boxer pay. . . dearly. . .

The main thing I'd be worried about is breaking or cutting my hand by punching someone's face so hard.

The argument you are trying to produce is an impossible one. Fights are more dependant on the actual fighters, not the technique they study. Anyone can say that master Zu can destroy Sergio with a leg sweep. Who knows they will never fight lol.

I will say though that boxers in their nature, are extremely conditioned and powerful. While traditional martial artists disregard that part(mostly) and rely on technique and mastery of the mind.

If you face an MMA fighter who is skilled in grappling, boxing, kick boxing etc, the pure boxer is at a disadvantage.

I train at a gym where there are some Brazilian MMA pro fighters, and I can tell you as long as I have been boxing and all the experience I have, I wouldn't fight some of them for all the money in the world. There's this one dude who had 30+ bare knuckle fights in Brazil and is a black belt champion in Ju-Jitsu.

If I don't hit him with the first few punches, I'm a dead man. Let's not kid ourselves, boxing is a sport, not fighting.
              Totally agree with this.

i agree; it's an impossible scenario to actually play out.

im just laying my lot with the martial artists due to their versatility.

also, mind and body are one - so I'd think it'd be foolish to say martial artists disregard physical stmaina, and strength. . . Just like it'd be to say boxers disregard mental strength.

But you can't deny that boxers are some of the fittest athletes in the world. I think it would be a long stretch to find someone who is a master in wing chun who is as fit as a boxer.

Definitely! that's where a grappling background comes into play. It's very easy to break your hand. I mean if you hit a someone of top of his head with no gloves on then most likely your hand will be ****ed. I've been boxing for 2 years and have 5 fights and like someone said MMA fighters would have the advantage if you both square up in the streets because of that grappling background.

If you get into a confrontation with a confident young white guy, just assume he is going to try to tackle you and take you down 9 out of 10 times. It's a pretty safe assumption
