Maybe now it is. In the 90's Flatbush was H.A.M.

Would you find numerous fighters to square up with black belts in various martial arts?

I'm not talking about the average guy.

Nor are we talking about "in the ring." We're talking about a street fight, as in anything goes. . "Hitting behind the head"?

No gloves to get a nice guard. .

Sorry, I'm taking Bruce Lee over Sergio Martinez in a street fight. . . Or a black belt in Wing Chun, Kung FU, etc. over a world class pugilist in a STREET FIGHT any day of hte week.

If you face an MMA fighter who is skilled in grappling, boxing, kick boxing etc, the pure boxer is at a disadvantage.

I train at a gym where there are some Brazilian MMA pro fighters, and I can tell you as long as I have been boxing and all the experience I have, I wouldn't fight some of them for all the money in the world. There's this one dude who had 30+ bare knuckle fights in Brazil and is a black belt champion in Ju-Jitsu.

If I don't hit him with the first few punches, I'm a dead man. Let's not kid ourselves, boxing is a sport, not fighting.

            Thank you. . .

I don't pretend to be a hardass on the internet. It's not like me, you, nor anybody else can prove how many fights they've been in, won, etc. anyway.

              So why talk about it?

I think people forget that the most useful thing boxing teaches you period, is footwork. A boxer with good footwork will never get hit by an attacker because he can cut angles and be in a safe zone at all times. The problem with most martial arts is they deal with attacks from straight on, because that's how most 'typical' fights take place, someone bum rushing the other person. Being a boxer, you can easily shift to the left, duck your head, back out, jump back in, touch em with teh jab, shift left again. They will be sonfused.

Yeah, Bruce Lee was so flat footed. . Was clueless on how to use angles, and avoid, duck, and counter attacks. . . He would come at you, and be swinging, and kicking air. . .

THe shoulder roll defense would no doubt inhibit his attack. . .
