I would have preferred just a big speech from Boris telling the world how great London and Britain is. And saying something xenophobic that would cause a mass punch-up to break out. There would be blood and riot police would be flooding in. Tear gas and water canons.

Someone would set fire to the stage, and the athletes would start looting props and kidnapping dancers.

Then we could have got Russell Brand singing 'pure imagination' as the Athletes form a defiant line in front of the advancing riot police armed only with tyres and bits of car.
