My mother and I were having a conversation about this the other morning. Increased exposure in the media seems to have lifted what was once thought of as taboo among our society and as a result, we're seeing more open gays at our jobs(my manager), on television, in the music industry etc etc.

The 80s:

80-82 were very manly.
83-86 were those gayass years (thanks mainly to Madonna and Prince)
87-89 were the years hip hop got the 80s back on the 'straight' path.

Like all trends though, I think it will die down after awhile.

Not saying gay will disappear, but the trendy cool to be gay type thing. People will go back to loving who they want and quit with the constant advertising, and need to announce to the world that they are gay.

I've had older people tell me that the 70's were gay as ****. That there was this music called glam rock where the gayer the guys looked the more b*tches they would get. Have no idea if that's actually true. But if it is, then that is easily a lot gayer then society today.
