He didn't come out of nowhere. The sons were never on his radar until Tig killed his daughter IMO. I don't believe he's more powerful than the Cartel, he probably does business with them too.

Pope the businessman > Mexican Cartel, Russian Organized Crime, IRA, FBI according to the terrible writers on this show. Killing Opie in order to inflate Pope's badness level, keep Clay around, and make Jax finally 'man up' because apparently killing almost all of his loved ones already wasn't enough to accomplish this are more examples of how Kurt Sutter and the writers have ruined a potentially great show and turned it into a okay one over the last couple seasons.

Pope isn't as powerful as you claim. When he spoke to Jax he mentioned that. As Jax got protection in jail & Pope couldn't get them wrecked he had to change strategy.

Killing Op wasn't to inflate Popes level of dominance. It's because the show revolves around Jax & being that they didn't have kill Clay when they should have, it would be hard to keep both Clay & Op alive & around the club. Someone had to go, they made it Opi.

I do agree with 1 thing though, killing Opi was the single most stupidest thing that they could have done. he was easily the deepest character in the entire show. What a complete & utter turn off. I don't see the show regrouping from this, just a bad move.

True but just because Jax can get protection in jail doesn't negate what i said. The Russians supply the IRA with much of their weapons and are probably a more powerful OC group than the Mexicans yet SAMCRO could kill a bunch of them without any repercussions to their business or violence.

Galindo also has no problems getting info from within the Russians or FBI yet Romeo says he won't even be able to communicate with Pope, get a sit down, or deter this imaginary Oakland organization that apparently has more clout than the ROC, Cartels, or IRA.

Listen to the episode 4 promo posted above "We've never been up against a guy like Pope, he could kill us with a phone call". It's absolutely ridiculous how they're portraying Pope and probably the most laughably bad storyline of the entire series.

Regarding what you said about keeping Clay. The Irishman not liking Jax is the only reason Clay is still alive and how pitiful of a story manipulation is that. Clay should be dead while Opie has more interesting story and is more important to SAMCRO than anyone yet they kill him off.
