it was funny.

That was the thing about the movie. The trailer made it seem like any other horror film. But by the first minute of the movie, it's more of a comedy than horror.

blame the movie studio.

they also held on to the movie for a long time.

i think they filmed it 3-4 years ago.

Can't blame the movie studio (MGM) because it went bankrupt. They didn't have enough money to distribute it. Lionsgate bought Cabin in the Woods around 2011. The funny thing is that the two films MGM held, Cabin in the Woods and the Red Dawn remake, star Chris Hemsworth even before he became Thor.
