because they accrued their stats & greatness during the developmental infancy stage of the nba. they went up against utterly inferior athleticism, size, & competition. There werent as many black athletes during the beginning stages of the nba, not as many teams. No international competition.

The celtics got the bulk of their titles in like a 4 or 5 team league if im not mistaken. The fact that Wilt averaged 50 per game without any real post game is indicative of how piss poor the talent, size, & athleticism of the nba. Russell & Wilt were in a era of slow white guys & one handed dribblers FFS.

Their talent & greatness does not crossover. Stop believing the ridiculous hype for the sake of preserving history & judge them yourself. Look at their game footage. Neither guy had real basketball skills. Just look at their free throw %. Why? Its indicative of how skilled you are as a player.

If Wilt or Russell played during the 80s & 90s vs Hakeem, Shaq, Parrish, Sampson, Robinson, Ewing, Mutombo, Mourning, & the likes they wouldnt crack a single all star team. their statistics & greatness would be cut in half.

That is not the least bit true. Both, Russell in particular, had more knowledge and skill than 90% of any big men that ever played the game. Russell was a great passer and mastered the art of tipping blocked shots to teammates to start fast breaks, and I shouldn't even have to bring up his defensive greatness. Wilt was such a freak because he had modern day size and athleticism back then, of course he'd fit into the modern NBA. This is also a center, a freaking center, who decided he wanted to try and lead the league in assists one season, and did so.

Cut their production in half, and they are still averaging more than most centers ever did. Both guys would have more than held their own in any era. If monsters like Russell or Wilt were put in the NBA today, their teams would be title contenders every year, because there are no comparable big men other than Dwight Howard.

that is the biggest crock of crap ever.

yea wilt was the only one. what would happen if he played in the 80s & 90s where players were just as big & more skilled than him? his production would be cut in half.

you have to look at his level of competition. look at the time period. & wilt leading in assists? sure he was being doubled & tripled team by inferior athleticism & size. wilt is also obsessed with stats.... to the detriment of his team's success. he would just refuse to score & just pass. He was so obsessed with not fouling out that when he was close to fouling he stopped playing defense.

There's a reason why he only won two titles.

Russell? guy was only 6'9 240-250 with no real post skills or shooting skills. Easy to grab 20-30 boards a game vs unathletic white guys with a loaded team year in year out in a nba with few teams. Like i said, the celtics won the bulk of their titles in like a 4-5 team league.

Just look at what time period they played in. Russell started playing in 1956!!! cmon dude. 1956!!! Wilt in 1959. Do you know how different the players the league is now or in the 80s or 90s than in the 50s & 60s?

Stop believing the hype & just look at their game footage & the talent level they were going up against. Look at their free throw %. they were not skilled at all.

Saying Wilt couldn't compete in an era where there are almost no true centers ...Wilt would destroy the Al Jeffersons and Greg Monroes of the NBA. Those guys had style and finesse that you just don't see anymore.

i didnt say this dead end center era, i said 80s & 90s. Even in this era, wilt aint putting up no 50 per game.

the league has evolved. athletes have evolved. Stop believing the hype & just look at wilt's game footage. He had no real post moves. Look at the time period he played in. Look at his competition.

Look at his freethrow %, the man shot underhanded FFS.... smdh...

                Wilt = Babe Ruth.

Their greatness does not translate over in different time periods.

sounds like Snaq...he did pretty well

Wilt was an athletic mountain and would have been successful in ANY era

you wanna slice his career highs in half if he played in the 80's or 90's and he'd still be an all star stud

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about if you are continuing to insist that Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain had no skills. That you completely ignored what skills I told you they had shows you have this ridiculous mindset that they were just tall and only dominated because of that.

You're right that they wouldn't put up the numbers they did when they played. But as I said, you can cut those numbers in half and they'd still be among the most productive big men in the league, if not the most productive.
