Also if your worried about costs in time of a recession, America actually pays a more per person than the UK (and we are FAR from perfect), and that includes the millions who dont have coverage in the US.

The reason the capital gains tax is 15% in this country is because the revenue is higher there than at other rates. And believe it or not, the idea is to extract more money to help pay off annual deficits of 1.4 trillion and a national debt that just hit 16 trillion. Not for purposes of, uh, "fairness."



FYI capital gains is paid on risky investments of your own money. Money that you have already paid tax on at some point. It is not guaranteed income like a salary or an hourly wage. Many times that part (or all) of that investment is lost. For instance 4 out of 5 start up businesses in this country fail.
