Jackson did come into his own as a songwriter with the albums 'Bad' & 'Dangerous' but a lot of the songs he's famous for ( And the songs people equate his genius to ) weren't even written by him.

My own personal opinion is that as a songwriter - he's overrated - as a performer - he's one of the greatest.

Michael Jackson is one of the most underappreciated song writers in history. Maybe because his 'showmanship' and singing ability overshadow it in some way.
