Yeah,he lifts the film...the second half of the film really suffers becuase of his absence.....though i guess the main reason it fails is the lack of emotional impact you get from the "climax" scene...which fails to justify the journey of private joker.

Still think my fav Nam movie is Platoon.. I got some association to this one last night though, hence the bump... What I really enjoyed in full metal were the combat scenes.

I do like that he exposed the elite in that movie. It's significant because of that and there are rumors that a lot of material was removed.

However, it's not a particularly great or brilliant film in my opinion. Especially when compared to Kubrick's other films.
