Like I said, they can beat any team in the league if they play the right way.

Because I think KD and LeBron (like other top-tier players)
best drive each other to excel precisely when they are on
opposing teams.

I think KD understands this, and won't be inclined to don
the purple-and-gold: I suspect he'd prefer to lead another
team in 'beating LeBron'; than merely being a supporting
cast member who facilitates a 'LeBron title win'. One might
want to ask why Kyrie left rather than share the roster
with King James.

Call it ego, pride, or whatever. Personal achievement and
self-esteem aren't ever totally-eclipsed by the selflessness
of an idealized "team effort".

But say Durant DOES agree to sign with the Lakers...
Any personally-competitive stance he has vs. LeBron can
no longer find an outlet except in ways potentially-harmful
to the team; and at best, his performance may decline
---as may LeBron's--- because they are no longer competing
against each other.

Bottom line for me is that James doesn't really need any
more help. All he needs to do is dig deeper than he seems
to be comfortable with, and there'll be fewer fellow stars
to have to share the glory of a title with.
