More distorted history celebrated tomorrow: Columbus Day

This was not written by me...but I felt compelled to share the info. Did not research it for accuracy...but I wouldnt be surprised if it was completely true...it does fit. Enjoy!

We've all been lied to about Columbus.
Before Columbus sailed the Atlantic, he was a slave trader for the Portuguese, transporting West African people to Portugal to be sold as slaves. Columbus initiated the first Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Columbus, brother and son continued slave trading of indigenous peoples from the Americas to Europe, and from Africa to the Caribbean. Under his administration as viceroy and governor of the Caribbean Islands, more than 8 million people were killed, making his "contribution" to history the first mass genocide of indigenous peoples. The Columbus legacy is steeped in blood, violence and death.

Celebrating Columbus Day not only teaches children to honor a cruel and brutal man, but it also encourages people to ignore and support racist practices that are embedded in social, economic, political, and judicial systems.

October 12th is not the day the “New World” was discovered, October 12th is the day that death, turmoil and racism was set forth by Christopher Columbus’ greed. This day in history is the beginning of the end for our African, Indigenous peoples, and Native American ancestors.
We Latino’s, African Americans, and Native Americans have no reason to honor Columbus
-FYI: The second Monday in October was declared a national public holiday by President Richard Nixon in 1971.

I can't stand it when people look back five hundred years with today's lenses. Look in 1492 people thought the earth was flat, filtered everything through religion b/c they knew no better, and if they didn't go out and take over territory, go out and rape and pillage and plunder, someone would do it to them. Stop and realize the time/environment you live in today and try to imagine living in 1500 and think about what your thought process. Columbus started a great genetic rift/flow of people(Europeans) that came over and developed North America and the western civilization we enjoy today. Yeah he had slaves, yes his men plundered/raped/pillaged, yeah some of his stories are exagerrated. So what? Without him and his conquests we probably wouldn't be sitting here talking about it on a comfy couch with a laptop via internet.

We may not have evolved too much physically over five hundred years, but look how far we have came mentally(especially the last hundred years). We are no longer in such the primal state of mind that we were even 200 years ago. The ability to learn and the tools to facilitate it are drastically differernt.

Read a pretty good book called 1434 that talked about the Chinese possibly discovering North and South America before Columbus did. Possibly providing maps for Columbus and others to reach the Americas. As well they may have helped spark the Renaissance in Europe. The same guy Gavin Menzies wrote another book 1421 that talks about these great Chinese Fleets. Is Columbus really the discoverer of America maybe, but their could be other options.

Come up with something better than quotes from a soon to be dictator when making a human rights argument.

The theory is that Native Americans first migrated from where Russia would meet Alaska on the supercontinent Pangea. I believe man has been around for a really long time. We are decendants or a more primal human who is a decendent of and even more primal human. That's why these Columbus arguments calling him an awful person are crap. By today's standards he would be executed, but so would alot of my Anglo ancestors who came from Britain and did almost the exact same thing under the cloak of Christianity. The founder of our f.ucking country was a slave owner, get over it. Should we go back all the way to Roman times and chastize Caesar as being an awful man because he raped/pillaged/enslaved/plunder to expand his empire? No, we should celebrate the many positive and scientific accomplishments(look at the aquaducts for crying out loud) and realize the 2000, 500, 250 years ago, humans were in a completely different mindset, had a complete different set of morals and ethics than most of humanity today. 150 years ago blacks were enslaved and hung for thing like "being accused of lusting after a white woman." God damn I'm ranting but this PC method of looking back through history and applying 21st century ethics to it drives me nuts.
