  • The Good News For Teo Is...

...pretty much every elite fighter (and some not so elite) Arum has lowballed has eventually left him and made exponentially more money.

DLH, Floyd, Cotto back in the day.

Chavez Jr had his biggest paydays after he left Arum.

Mikey Garcia is a legit ppv attraction after leaving TR.

Even Pacquiao, who made incredible amounts WITH Arum, saw a kind of improvement. His last 3 fights with Arum, he made no more than 34 to 42 million total. His last three fights without Arum, Pac has made at least 20 million from each of them...AND he's not paying Arum a cut.

And, there are others who left TR and flourished.

Yeah, I know what some of you are thinking.

Some of you are still on that "if Teo really thinks he can beat Loma, he should just take the 1.2 million!" refrain.

Hell, I am a fan. I wish he'd take it too. But, unlike some of you, I understand why he isn't and I respect where he is coming from.

Imma tell you what Teo sees.

He sees himself being offered a purse that is only 400K more than Crolla got.

He sees a split that is much less percentage-wise than any champion Loma faced at the weight.

He sees everyone crying broke about the pandemic- even going as far to say Lomachenko is taking a "pay cut"- yet to the best of my knowledge 3.25 million is the largest guaranteed payday Lomachenko has ever received. If I am wrong, feel free to post a link proving it.

Teo also sees Arum, who is worth 300 million, not giving enough of a shyt to come up with another 800K to 1 million to make his pay more respectable. It was a disrespectfully proffered offer by Arum, sent as "take it or leave it"- another hint and a half at where Bob was really going with this.

Lastly, Teo is likely trying to see whether ESPN gives enough of a damn to make sure that one of the best fights that can possibly be made is actually made.

I don't think this is about Lopez not really wanting the fight. And, it is probably about more than just the money. If Lopez is "the future" as Arum and ESPN love to hype him as, this is a strange way to treat it.

I believe this is Teo trying to see where he really stands as far as TR and ESPN, to what extent he is really valued when it isn't simply just about hype and rhetoric. And, if Lopez eventually leaves Top Rank, you can bet that this is where the exit started.

Lopez needs to take the offer beat Lomas azz and next fight is baller type money.Or turn it down which is his right sit for months on end with no money coming in and end up fighting a bum for way less money in late 20 or early 21.

Arum has a track record and some fighters know it.

He'll go to the media talking about the fighter making all sorts of unreasonable demands without ever having talked to the fighter or his representation.

Gonna post videos in this thread soon.

Again, the good news for Teofimo Lopez is that there are many other boxing stars that went thru stuff like this with Arum and lots of them made huge money after the conflict served to be the start of them leaving Top Rank.

Why don't you post links to prove that what you're saying here is true?

Teo is much younger than those fighters and who knows how many fights he has on his current deal. And when Mikey left, we saw what he went through and how much of his career he lost.

TR also hasn't made any money with Teo yet so they aren't going to treat him bad. They WANT him to be a star and potentially headline PPVs. Arum is just doing what he always does when he wants to pressure fighters in taking fights or take the blame away from him if the fight doesn't happen. I still think this fight can happen. Whatever Teo is demanding compared to what Arum is offering, they can meet in the middle if the demands aren't unrealistic. And honestly if they were, Arum would have came out and said this kid is asking for something ridiculous but he did not say that. Also, I'm really not sure what he means when he says he doesn't want to take a big loss for this fight. This isn't like Pacquiao vs Bradley on PPV where both fighters had huge guarantees, especially Pacquiao. Arum will be using ESPN's budgeted money here for the most part. Any loss he takes will be minimal in the big picture.

I think Teo has been with TR since 2016. If it was a five year deaI it could be up as early as next year or 2022. I have heard of no extensions but we know Arum is famous for tacking 2 or 3 fights to a contract.

You're right about the minimal loss, which makes the offer by Arum even more perplexing to me. Why alienate a guy you are trying to build into a star?

Arum's has said in the media that 1.2 million is "take it or leave it". I hope Arum rethinks that and throws more money into the pot.

Loma vs Lopez is the kind of fight that can help the sport get thru a nightmare year.

Teo just needs to take the fight. If he is as good as he says he is he will try to overpower Loma and win. If he wins he opens the door to more big fights. Tank Davis, Haney, Stevenson, Garcia, the jr welters. He will have earned it then.

Who knows if Lopez's deal got extended when he became a champion. This is why the situation could be hell for Teo if he tries to get out of his deal with TR with multiple fights/years left on it.

Arum is trying to put some public pressure on Teo to accept the deal. It's just a old trick a lot of promoters use, especially Arum. Don't you remember the "countdown clock" he had for Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations? Lol.

I just want to know what ESPN is willing to put up for this fight and how much Arum will have to put up of his own money. Hard for me to see a "big loss" on this fight even with no gate.
