  • Demetrious Johnson is Pumped To Leave UFC, Join ONE

Singapore: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), recently held a Worldwide Conference Call with Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, widely considered the best pound-for-pound mixed martial artist in the world today. Also on the call was ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

In a historic deal that trades Johnson from the UFC to ONE Championship in exchange for former ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben “Funky” Askren, Johnson joins a ONE athlete roster which is the most talent-rich martial arts roster in the industry including world champions from mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing, and the like. The deal is the first of its kind in mixed martial arts history.

Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated: “It is my absolute pleasure to introduce Demetrious Johnson today, the newest ONE Championship athlete. Demetrious is without a doubt pound-for-pound the greatest mixed martial artist in history. Joining ONE, Demetrious is just getting started, the best is yet to come. He has achieved a lot for sure, but there is more here in Asia for him. It is an honor for me to be working with Demetrious and give him a platform where he can showcase his skills. It is an honor for me to tell his story and make sure people know who he is and what he stands for. Demetrious will inspire and change the world through the ONE platform.”

Demetrious Johnson, ONE Athlete, stated: “First of all, I am glad to be a part of ONE Championship. I am very honored and grateful to be a ONE athlete. It’s a huge move on my part, for my career. I’m looking to come over to Asia and test my skills against the best in the flyweight division. I know those guys are animals. I know Geje [Eustaquio] and [Adriano] Moraes are beasts, and I’m looking forward to getting into the cage with them. At the end of the day, I feel that I am very young in my career and I wanted to try something different. I’ve always wanted to travel the world and compete. I think ONE is a fantastic organization that represents incredible values -- things that I also love to represent about this sport.”

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson of Kirkland, Washington, United States is a mixed martial artist and former UFC Flyweight Champion with a professional record of 27-3-1. With a highly-technical style and world-class skills, Johnson has dominated his division for the past six years. During this span, Johnson captured the flyweight world title and ran up a win streak of 13 bouts since 2012. Today, he is widely considered the best mixed martial artists in the world pound-for-pound. Johnson now joins ONE Championship looking to continue his legendary career in the world’s largest martial arts organization.

The news of Johnson’s signing comes on the heels of former UFC Lightweight Champion “The Underground King” Eddie Alvarez joining ONE Championship, which the organization announced in mid-October. ONE Championship has the largest collection of martial arts world champions in the world, including the biggest names in the industry across the full spectrum of martial arts, such as ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, kickboxing superstar Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan, Muay Thai legend Yodsanklai Fairtex, and WBC Super Flyweight World Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, among others.

Unless he wins a title, I guess. Then he will jump up, jump up and get down, in celebration haha.

Yep. ONE making moves like a mofo lately.

I saw they are looking to hire Robin Black too supposedly. Black's been trying to get a job with the UFC forever, but his style probably isn't a good fit for the UFC. Enjoy him talking about MMA doe so that should only help ONE be better.

Supposedly they got a US TV deal thats just not been announced yet so all these acquistions are probably being made with the goal of having max impact with said TV deal.

Maybe One will be like Pride used to be, serious competition for the UFC, except this time, they'll do better than Pride did. But they'd have to do shows in the US though, wouldn't they?

Pride didn't do many US shows iirc.

But ONE is allegedly about to have a ONE US TV deal.
