  • Question about an Exhibition. Is This Legal?

    Hi Everyone!

I was supposed to fight in my first exhibition (smoker) recently.

I didn't get paired up so I wasn't able to fight.

HOWEVER, I thought it was pretty shady how they matched people up... they called all the fighters to one room and paired us off by EYE and not be weight... I ALMOST got paired up with a girl who looked 20 + pounds heavier than I was.

WTH? Lol. Some of these people were newbie fighters... while some had fights in their books...

Honestly sounds illegal... Have you guys ever experienced this? Thoughts?

Isn't the thing with smokers is they aren't regulated like regular bouts? Idk never been to a smoker show let alone compete in one, but from what I've heard of them they are pretty w/e about performing to the rules & regulations of USA Boxing or any national commission.

I don't know why people are so shocked??
Its an exhibition, not a carded fight.

Now I don't know about "smokers" , but certainly when you travel for sparring or exhibitions, and you don't really know the club or fighters that well (and even if you did) then yea, you would try and match people the best you can, according to their weight, experience, age and all that.
Now sometimes (sparring and exhibitions) you will concede one or the other.
For example.... One person has more experience, the other has weight and age.
One person is heavier than the other, but the other person has the age and experience.

You don't really weigh in for spars or exhibitions, and its all about gaining experience.

Now if you were matched with someone a lot bigger, and more experienced then that is a red flag, and I mean more experienced as in you have had one fight they have had 10-15.

Either way you (or your corner in this instance) will know after less then a minute whether you should be in their with this person and is up to them to take responsibility to pull you out. If not, this is bad practice, and leave ASAP.
