  • Critique my double-end bag session

    Short clip and I was rusty on it and not really working on anything but tell me what you see. I have always had this weird tick that I nod my head up for a bit, any pointers to get rid of it?

            If you're going to be punching straight shots do yourself a favor and keep your hands up. When you start throwing your 1-2, your hands drop way below your chin and because you're hitting a lower double end bag, your leaning into it with your head first. Your 1-2 is telegraphing from your chest or right below your shoulders.
            Try punching downwards instead of straight from your chest. You'll still stay protected, and you'll actually have a little more pop behind your shots.

              Thank you for the advice, will keep all that in mind. Do you think I should adjust the bag higher up to head level?

                I've seen people experiment with different heights on the double end bag. My personal experience has always been to keep it armpit level to even with my head.

                    Pretty good, all-around. Couple small things that are mostly personal choice;
                    -Your chin is kinda hanging out there and open. Plenty of pros train like that but I personally find a lot of value in doing bag sessions with fight stance/posture so that you don't develop bad habits. I work the double-ender like you do (as if it's an opponent) but I tuck my chin and keep my shoulder a little forward, as if it were a fight.

                    -As has been said, the bag could be a little higher. Really changes the dynamic and makes you work your head movement more. Makes the chin-tucking more relevant too.

                    Very solid work overall.
