  • Picking the right headgear the first time.

I live in South Korea and need to buy some headgear. However, boxing stores here are not very common. They have tons of stuff that I can order over the internet, but I am scared about sizing.

I tried on a few face savers from a Korean maker and Everlast. I found that the Korean one was just large in general. The Everlast was even worse. There was about an inch of extra space on each cheek and the mouth bar was inflexible making the headgear completely useless.

I am a teacher, so I can't go to class every day looking beatup. Is there any gear that would be more likely to fit my face that someone would recommend that I look into?

get the lightest headgear that you find with cheeck protection....

it's been proven that the headgear with the puffiest stuffing actually compounds the impact. Up on the forehead and cheeks go slim.

    I prefer Trojan....

Thanks for your recomendation, but i need something to guard my Caucasian nose. The face savers seem to be one size fits all but me.

Dont tell me to just "not get hit in the face" I am a woman fighting men more capable than me. My first face shot in headgear gave me a bloody nose.

Welcome to the club cup cake.

A full faceguard ah? You'll love it when you get hit, the guard moves and you cant see anything of the combo that is bouncing your head around.

and when you are sparring these men.... you are not a woman, you are a tiger.

Yea, the moving headgear is my problem. I couldnt get the Everlast face saver to not freely move around my face with little to no force. There are no face cages here so I would have to import one, and that means I cant try it on or return it.

What about thick ones like the adidas ADIBHG041 that have pads close to the nose but not covering it? I found the vision slits to be very narrow on it. I compared the korean pic to the american site pic and found the padding under the eyes to be much higher on the korean version. Might it move down with use to improve the vision?

I have been looking at a lot of articles like the one you just shared. The problem is that most of the recommendations are not easily acquired here. I want to be able to try the headgear on first, but there are only a few stores without much choice. The best store here has a good selection of Adidas gear.

If you don't want your face bruised up ect, don't box. This is the hurt business you are dabbling in, and while most dudes will take it easy on you...some will take sadistic pleasure in causing you pain. Wasn't hugged enough by mommy as a child. Whatever.

Anywho, In sparring i found I would take the most hits when I couldn't see. Over exaggerated sight impeding headgear + a high guard with 14-16oz gloves made it harder to do my thing. I prefer simplicity....lightest most visually open gear possible so I can see the shots coming.

Dont buy a full guard headgear unless you can afford two headgears and are a pro or good amateur fighter.

The reason pros use these Headgear is because they dont wanna get injured right before a fight.

Also the downside besides higher price is that it is way heavier and you cant see ****, thus getting hit way more often.

So I definitly recommend a normal mexican style/cheek headgear.

If you got the money and are serious about boxing buy winning headgear, since japan is basically next to korea.

Otherwise link a korean shop and the others and myself can help you decide.

I cant link any websites since I am too new. It says you need 15 posts first.

                    ringside.co.kr
                    boxingmecca.co.kr

                    헤드기어 = headgear

I am leaning towards the Adidas 'super pro training headguard'. the problem is in some pictures you can see the cheek goes lower and others it comes much higher to be only about a 1 inch vision slit. The one I saw at the store came very high and didn't have the best of vision under the eyes. I am going to go again today and compare them and see if I can make them work.

Winning is out of the question. It's way too expensive and stores don't carry it.
