  • Getting Out The Corner / Off The Ropes

    Hi Guys

Im pretty new to boxing started training about 3 months ago, and started sparring (only sparred 3 times so far)
First sparring session I felt went quite well and was sparring guys with similar exp to me, however my latest one I was sparring with a couple of guys who've been doing it a few years and so had quite a bit of experience on me, so straight away was lacking confidence

So anyway I didn't do well at all and was mainly just trying to defend myself rather than attacking, as every time i attacked i seemed to get countered quite hard.

So in both the rounds I had - I seemed to get pushed to the corner and couldn't really get out of it so ended up just having to stand my ground with my guard up and took a couple of big shots, thankfully it was only straight shots allowed and the guys didnt go too hard on me, however I couldn't seem to get out of it so ended up just getting hammered in the corner - I think it was due to my lack of confidence to try and push back and counter etc and seemed to just be shying away for the punches. So after that session its knocked my confidence!

Anyway was just looking for some tips if there are any for getting out of those situations when you've been pushed into the corner etc.

    Cheers
    T

watch that vid, its a better explanation than anyone here can give but when your under pressure its difficult to remain calm enough to pull that sort of stuff off but it comes with practice and sparring experience.
