On my list of great welters I rate him very highly, he fought in a very tough era with many capable fighters with a wide range of different styles, he fought tough sluggers in Muniz and Lopez (RIP) and flashy slickters like Hedgemon Lewis and was able to adapt and beat all of them. He was slick, had a big punch and his timing was excellent which made up for his average handspeed. I find it more impressive that he was more or less a blown-up lightweight, he fought every credible opponent at welter until he was past his prime and then he moved up and took on a prime ATG middleweight in Carlos Monzon and considering the circumstances he fought respectively. I would put him in my top thirty P4P of all time and my top 5 welters of all time, I think I rated him at 3 the last time I did a list.
Great fighter, great welterweight. His nickname described him well, Mantequilla or Butter in English. Slick guy, hard to hit clean, very good at transitioning from defense to offense. Brilliant to watch.
he is extremely overrated,he has done nothing in terms to be considered a good fighter,if he were fighting today he would not even be a ranked fighter,
