what julian jackson did was he would launch a punch at full speed (like with no power) and just before connection he would brace his fist and wrist as hard as he could so on impact it would be travelling full speed before slowing down with a thud right on impact. also learn to shift and work on hard...

shouldn't be sparring with a pro especially in your first or second week back. you need at least a month to shake off the rust and get into sparring condition. you can be in great condition and that alone could be enough to keep you on your feet...
