Normally the weaight starts on the rear foot (for a right cross) and transfers to the front left foot during hip rotation. This is how most people are taught and it works.
However Ive heard from a very reputable individual that you should have the weight on the front left foot at the start of the right cross and keep it there during/after hip rotation. The idea being that you want the weight in front of your punch not behind it. Supposedly this is more likely to knock someone out.
