I currently weight about 154 lbs, and I am 5'10. For my first amateur fight I wanted to cut down to 141 to fight at welterweight. However I was told that such a loss in weight for an amateur match is not ideal because you don't have 24 hours to rehydrate like the pros do. So, I wouldn't want to be drained and not perform well. At the same time, at 154 I feel sluggish and tense, because i'm not even supposed to weight this much, but some time off of training and a whole lot of junk food made it happen. I really should walk around at about 149. So I know I wouldn't feel right fighting at 152, especially against a bigger guy.
Is the move to 141 a good idea, and what's your take on the rehydrating issue.
