My girlfriend actually got me these gloves as a birthday present. At first I thought she paid too much (I think she paid $129.00 for them). I know Cleto Reyes makes very good quality products but I don't like people spending that much money on me, it's just the way I have always been.
The Good:
- First thing you notice is the quality, top notch no doubt. The leather is great and the stitching is very, very good. It also is a great looking glove, I have gotten nothing but compliments about the glove since I have been in the gym with them. Cleto makes a great product and this one is no different.
- The wrist area is long, as in the traditional Mexican cut. It gives you a feel that the wrist gets a lot of supprt and that's good.
- They have a large opening so a lot of air gets in, so they don't get too hot and you don't have to worry about them getting real smelly inside. The lining on the inside is nice as well, like a stain feel that makes your hands feel nice and cool.
- You get mobility in the hand. You can open and close your hand really well and it's good for defensive purposes.
The Bad:
- The thumb postition isn't great. Cleto Reyes always has this type of cut to their gloves, some people like it, some don't. I think it's made more for a wider hand because if you have long, lanky hands or fingers, the thumb position won't feel very comfortable.
- It does take about a month I would say to break them in. They are a bit "stiff" at first but once you break them in, they feel great on your hands.
- The padding is compact is you would expect with all Cleto Reyes gloves. They are 16oz and still carry a "pop" to them, if you know what I mean. They aren't that compact that I wouldn't recommend them for sparring but compaired to other gloves, they do have a harder feel.
Overrall I would say I recommend these gloves. They are light and are made with very high quality as you would expect. The price tag is high, so if you don't want to pay that much for a pair of sparring gloves, I woudn't recommend these but they are a very high quality glove.
I give them a 9 out of 10.
