    Calzaghe vs Manfredo

    By Dan Rafael
    Updated: Nov. 17, 2006

    • As Taylor tries to move closer to a fight with Calzaghe (42-0, 31 KOs), the unified super middleweight champ from Wales will try to do his part by making his historic 20th title defense March 3 (HBO) in Cardiff against Peter Manfredo Jr. (26-3, 12 KOs), the runner-up in the first season of "The Contender" reality series. The camps reached an agreement this week and contracts are going back and forth between the sides for signatures, a source directly involved in the deal told ESPN.com. An official announcement is expected the week after Thanksgiving. In addition to Calzaghe-Manfredo, the telecast probably will include the HBO debut of lightweight megaprospect Amir Khan, the 2004 British Olympic silver medalist. A Calzaghe victory could pave the way for him to come to the United States for a showdown with Taylor later in 2007.

    This is a joke.

Kessler's ready to face him to unify all the titles and he looks to a guy who's barely a top ten fighter.

    Same ol same ol.

I agree wholeheartedly with the posts so far. This is a JOKE. Manfredo being ranked in any sanctioning body's top 10 is a joke. He beat Joey Spina and somehow that puts you on deck for the Ring Magazine Title. Oh I forgot I guess all the best Super Middles reside in Providence RI so if you're the best there then naturally you're probably top 5 in the world.

Seriously, Manfredo was just starting to get into a grove when the ref called a halt to the action even though Peter dodged all of Joe's shots. I mean, Manfredo was a beast in his prime, don't forget he's the same guy that KO'd Mike McFail, Ron Carnell, Antonio Baker, Manuel Antonio Teo, Kenny Stubbs, Donny McCrary, Shane Benfield, Joe Spina and of course Scott Pemberton. I think Joe got lucky and he owes the success of the latter part of his career to Manfredo and the ref, because without that fight, he wouldn't have became the superstar he is today.
