    Maskaev-Klitschko talks!

Representatives of WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev and IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko are in serious negotiations for a title unification showdown in April. Maskaev has a defense scheduled for December 10 plus a mandatory against the winner of the Sam Peter-James Toney rematch, but would likely ask for an exception and try to unify with Klitschko. The fight could take place in the United States or Russia, wherever the money is.

What I dont get is why Maskaev had to sign on to fight this bum Okhello, it was a really ****** move, no way the wbc lets maskaev fight klitschko, I highly doubt it...

Okhello was just a "gimme opponent" so he can look good in his first defense in his hometown. No biggie. All fighters have done it.

This is good news. I just hope Maskaev can hold onto the belt long enough to meet Klitschko and unify. I just want one champ. I'm tired of this alphabelt soup.

Doesn't matter if Maskaev loses in Russia. Shady Nady is apparently doing that fight, so anything's possible.

No way will they allow him to squeak past another mandatory defense. Not when Toney/Peter will have already fought twice for the chance. If Peter wins another BS decision, I'd definately allow him to pass on a Peter defense though.

It depends on when Peter/Toney fight goes down. If it's in February or March, Maskaev might get that exception, I think WBC would give it to him without any problems. I still wish Vitali came back and won WBC belt.

EDIT: Just remembered that Peter/Toney is on Jan 06, so chances of exception for Maskaev are slim. Oh well, I'm sure that Wlad/Toney would be a much bigger draw.

Yeah, but what if Toney/Peter 2 is another controversial decision or a close Toney win, etc.? They may get caught up in a rubber match. That would probably be the best thing for the division. Either will beat Maskaev and neither will beat Klitschko. So the whole Toney-Peter thing is just an extra step in unification, really. They fight to get the chance to beat Maskaev to get the chance to lose to Klitschko. I'd be for Klitschko unifying first, then making defenses against guys like Toney and Peter as a unified recognized champion, and that would be the best thing for the sport as well.

Klitschko-Peter II for two belts is the best fight I can imagine, other than maybe Klitschko-Brewster II
