If a young, prime of his life Oscar De La Hoya had loads of trouble with a 33 year old, past his best slickster in Pernell Whitaker, now that he's older and slower at 35, he's going to be in over his head against a prime of his life slickster in Floyd Mayweather.

Oscar's no dummy and he's more mature than he was when he fought Whitaker and is likely to not be intimidated by Floyd; but I really don't think that will matter. Floyd is starving for recognition and respect and world-wide acclaim and he feels Oscar is the way to achieve that, so you know he's going to be in prime shape. Oscar, on the other hand, is a prideful man, a better than average boxer, and has a better than average left-hook. If he uses his jab, Floyd will have trouble getting inside and countering. Also, Floyd's defense's one ***** that I've noticed is that it's relatively open for the left hook, which is Oscar's best punch. Unfoturnately for Oscar, Floyd's no dummy and will more than likely circle away from the hook, thus maximizing his strengths while minimizing Oscar's.

This will be a tactical battle for all 12 rounds and will be close because Oscar's not "shot" yet, though his destruction of Mayorga was as misleading as Tito's demolition of the same opponent.....we saw what happened to Trinidad when he faced Wright. Oscar's a better boxer than Trinidad was, though, so he'll be able to hang with Mayweather; but he won't be able to beat him.

    Floyd by close unanimous decision.

oscar's 33 and he'll be facing a smaller opponent where as tito was facing a bigger(or at least same size) wright... i dont disagree with your pic though, a close dec. by PBF seems likely...

I coulda swore Oscar was closer to 35.

Hmm. Oh well. The points you make are indeed valid; but I would counter that the similarites between Winky and PBF in regards to their style outweigh the size differential since neither are big punchers; but point taken.

Regardless of his age, he struggled with Felix Sturm (some thought Sturm won that fight) and was KO'ed by a bodyshot from Bernard Hopkins in a fight that some speculate he took a dive in. Oscar did not magically recuscitate his career in my eyes by beating Mayorga. He is nowhere near his prime, and he's been suffering from injuries in his arm. He's a millionaire, has nothing left to really fight for. This fight is about money only. IMO he should have called it quits after the Hopkins fight and then stayed retired.

I don't give a **** what anyone says, I'd rather see Mayweather in with a hungry Margarito or Cotto than see him beat the crap out of an old lion like DLH. DLH was an awesome fighter in his prime but that was years ago.

Mayweather by clear cut UD. It won't be as one sided as Baldomir was but there'll be no dispute that Oscar is past it after the fight.

Okay. Now I know where my thinking went astray. He's going to be 34 next year...I rounded up.

It'll be 12 rounds of pitty-patt, pitty-patt and bicycle followed by pitty-patt and bicycle by PBF, all night long.

He's much much faster and skilled than DLH, both offensively and defensively, but won't take out DLH.

Exactly. PBF goes on and on about building a "legacy" but can't achieve that objective while clearly avoiding Margarito and/or Cotto.

It's just another reason (a big one) why many fight fans dislike PBF. He's saying it ain't about the money and insists it's about his legacy. Then he goes straight for DLH!

Exactly. This fight will be a great cardiovascular workout for Floyd but his chin will be as unmarred as the day he was born. You just know Margarito and Cotto have wet dreams about cracking Floyd one in the chin. If either gets a fight with him, at least you know they will give their big break all they have. They won't be trying to survive, they will try to kill Mayweather.

ODH will be content to just go the distance and not mix it up too much. He has money, health, and looks and he'll want to be able to retire to enjoy all of them. Its for this reason that Mayweather-ODH will not be a thrilling fight. Mayweather wants the win on his record, and the money, and Oscar just wants one last big fight to add to his Scrooge McDuck vault.
