This fight is a big fight, don't get me wrong, but i still think Floyd is fooling all of us. He will win this fight, since Oscar is getting a bit old, and all. Floyd could have made WAY BETTER fights that would challenge him more to ultimately see if he is truly pound for pound. He didn't have to pick the "Big" names to be challenged, but oh well, this fight is on and i'm stoked.

Pernell, at 5'6, is shorter than Floyd by two inches and he gave Oscar big trouble--even floored the Golden Boy. But Pernell had been at 147 for quite a while before facing Oscar at that weight. It was not as if Oscar was all that big for Whitaker.
Oscar has fought five times at 154, Floyd never. Not even in a tune up. He can work with the view of carrying the extra weight sparring in the gym, do more flex and agility exercises with the objective of retaining his usual speed but it's never the same as in a competitive fight over 12 rouinds. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I don't believe it is wise for Floyd to test the 154 waters by facing a De La Hoya who has had five fights at that weight, winning four and losing one-- to Shane. He should have a tune-up if only to find out for sure if he can carry that much weight into the later rounds without becoming vulnerable. But, of course a bad performance in a tune-up can jeopardize the big money. So...
Speaking of De La Hoya's loss to Sugar Shane, it may be that which is encouraging Floyd's camp. They may have seen something there as well as in the De La Hoya-Whitaker fight. But Shane had two tune-ups before facing De La Hoya.
Oh well... The fight is reportedly on. I can hardly wait, just the same.Last edited by grayfist; 11-14-2006, 04:47 AM.
