    Ali-Berbick (1981)

This is the first time I've watched this fight. I actually thought that Ali got robbed. I had it 96-95 for Ali, because I think a point was deducted form Berbick. What do you guys think?

How can you score a fight that close and call it a robbery?

Well, I think Ali deserved the decision.

There's not a bigger Ali fan than me; but, no....he didn't win that fight. He looked much better than he did against Holmes because he wasn't doped up on thorazine; but he still looked like an old fat man trying to imitate Muhammad Ali. I can give him no more than three rounds....maybe four if I stretch it.

I had it 4-4-2, so it should have been a draw. but I remember the ref took a point from berbick, so that's where I got my score from.

Ali took many of the early rounds, by using a jab and movement, while Berbick would move in wildly. I didn't count the blows Berbick landed hehing his head or while they were clinching, since that's illegal anyway. So I think if you only count the legal blows landed by both Berbick and Ali, I would say Ali pulled it off. So IMO Ali is 57-4.

Sorry butterfly; but I've got a few years on ya. Been an Ali fan simce I was like 5....wrote a paper on him in High School, taped every fight of his I could after we got a VCR, and have him second only to my Dad as my personal hero.

He was champ when I was a kid.....and I don't take anything away from you as a fan, obviously; but he influence me big time in how to carry myself, how to treat others, and how to be a man......almost as much as my dad, not quite; but he did indeed influence me big time.

Nothing personal butterfly. I've just been a huge fan of his for a very long time. One of the coolest moments in my adult life came last year when I wrote an article on him, "Shades of Greatness", and received an email from his personal assistant. I've still got a print-out of it.

yeah, i wish this fight had never happened. i think Ali's health wouldn't be so bad if he'd retired a couple years earlier, he took too many beatings at the end
