    Should Holyfield be boxing?

I think he should just retire. He is way past his prime. I can't ever see him winning a title. He definitely won't be the #1 guy in that division any more. He's extremely dedicated, has lots of heart, and doesn't want to quit, but I think that's to a fault. Just let it go Evander, you've been great for the sport. Your thoughts

If he wants to fight, let him fight. As long as he's healthy enough to do so, I don't see why not. If they would have told George Foreman he's too old, he would have never won the HW championship at age 46.

I don't think Holyfield has any chance of winning a title, but I know he loves the sport. Not letting a fighter fight is like not letting a fan watch...

You make a very good argument and I really want to agree with you but for the health of Evander Holyfield I have to disagree. While I see your parallel to the fan not being able to watch, the fan doesn't have a significant chance of suffering permanent brain damage if he does watch whereas Holyfield really does have this risk when he fights. In theory I guess if he passes the medical tests then he is good to go, but I tend to think that the tests basically indicate that he won't die or be permanently injured as a DIRECT result of the fight...indirect results are a different story.

Can watching cause permanent brain damage, multiple other injuries, or even death? I don't think so.

Although I get what you're saying, that people should be able to do whatever makes them happy, but sometimes, as is the case with Evander and many other old ****ers who refuse to retire, they are too blind to see that they are hurting themselves. Even if it is their own decision, their safety is a concern for others, and it should for themselves too.

IMO he should not be fighting........unless he is just going to face tomato cans like his last opponent........than I don't have a problem with him making a few extra bucks.......but his "dream" is insane and will never happen and I would be afraid for his life if he got in there with a big puncher like Briggs,Klit or Peter for instance. He should just quit and think he will after he gets either stopped late or nearly shut out by Fres Oquendo.

it's his choice although i don't agree with it, i think he should stop fighting and think about his future and his health, it's not like he needs the money. wait he might with all that child support.

but he has to live with his decisions after it's all said and done.

the powers that be in boxing want him to quit because he's known as a crossover star in boxing and if something were to happen to Holyfield inside the ring or as a result of something happening to him after a fight, it would damn near destroy boxing. so many people who aren't even in boxing would try and shut it down so fast it would be head spinning.

If this is your argument, then boxing should be illegal because every fighter is at risk when they step between the ropes no matter they're age...

Well, Holyfield is better than a lot of journeymen who make careers out of getting their asses kicked regularly. What's the difference? Oh yeah, Holyfield is a name and we don't want him to tarnish his legacy. Those journeymen haven't done **** so let them keep fighting no matter what.

If Holyfield shouldn't fight, neither should Jeremy Bates (his last opponent) or any other journymen...

Holyfield wants to become another Foremon, but the only difference is that Holyman can't get lucky with one punch the way big George did, because Holy don't have a big heavy punch like big George.

I think Holyfield should retire, if he loses tonight he better retire.

Speaking of the fight tonight, since its not on regular cable, is anyone going to watch/do a round-by-round?

I think he should retire, but if he passes medically I don't see why they should stop him.
