$1m for Green to fight in WA

The push for Danny Green to fight German rival Markus Beyer in Perth next January starts today, when boxing promoter Justin Manolikos puts his $1 million bid on the table.
Beyer controversially regained the World Boxing Council's super-middleweight title from Italian Cristian Sanavia when referee Ian Lewis halted the contest 44 seconds into the sixth round in Messehalle, Germany, on Saturday night.
After Perth missed out on an interim world title fight between Green and Dane Mikkel Kessler on December 12, Perth's Manolikos will contact the WBC today to get the new bid rolling.
Beyer was behind on points at the end of the fifth round and started the sixth with a flurry of punches, before Lewis stopped the contest to the dismay of the Italians.
"I'll contact the WBC to find out the deadline for the bids," Manolikos said. "We will do everything to hold the fight in Perth, which we hope will be in late January."
A successful bid will cost at least $1 million.
But Beyer's camp would be confident of hosting the fight, as he has fought only once outside Germany. He beat English fighter Richie Woodhall on points to win the WBC super-middleweight title for the first time in England five years ago.
Green was to have defended his WBC interim crown against the unbeaten Kessler but after the Dane missed three deadlines set by the WBC to sign the fight contract, the WBC installed Green as the mandatory challenger for the winner of Saturday's bout.
Green, 31, is holidaying in Fiji. His trainer-manager Jeff Fenech welcomed Beyer regaining the crown.
"We will now be able to finish our unfinished business," Fenech said.
He was referring to the controversial fight in Germany 14 months ago when Green lost to Beyer.
Green knocked Beyer to the canvas for a mandatory eight count in each of the first two rounds and was ahead on all of the judges cards when US referee Bill Clancy disqualified the WA fighter for a head butt.
WBC president Jose Sulaiman has since admitted that Green should not have been disqualified.
Fenech said he hoped the fight would be held in Perth.
"It would be great having Danny's people behind him but if we have to go to Germany, we will take on Beyer anywhere," Fenech said.
About 50 members of Green's family and supporters travelled to Germany for the ill-fated contest and then to Montreal, Canada, when he beat local Eric Lucas for the WBC interim super-middleweight title last December.
The contest on Saturday was the 33-year-old Beyer's 30th win in 32 bouts. It was his 12th win by stoppage.
Green, a Sydney Olympian, has an imposing record of 19 wins from 20 contests, with 18 knockouts.
Hopefully this fight will be made and Green can take revenge on Beyer as he was battering him but for whatever reason started using his head and was dq'd, if he can keep his cool this time he should win pretty handily.

I think it's Western Australia.
