IMO, PBF is a very talented and gifted fighter, with many positive attributes that other fighters of our era have never possesed or exemplified. Despite these facts, PBF does not strike me as a fighter who is in it for pleasing the fans. Boxing is a sport, sports are made for entertainment. If the public is not entertained with his performances, how can one claim to be the best ever? Being the best does not mean that one defeats the competitors that is put in front of him, but one who defeats them while pleasing the fans while doing so. I personally am a adamant boxing fan, and I recognize that PBF is something special, but I cannot say that he is worthy of being called the greatest or even one of the greatest. PBF would need to defeat the top P4P fighters of today in order to be considered as a great. PBF running for the last 18 seconds of the fight with his hand raised is was immature and unsportsmanlike, his comments made to Larry Merchant were also uncalled for and disrespectful. He states "I am a gladiator", yet i do not see any gladiator in him. "It's not about money"..... I am not sure anyone believes that. If he is the greatest he would please the fans by fighting Margarito, Cotto, Hatton, Mosely, DLH. I personally think that Margarito does not have a chance against him, but by fighting him, at least he can say I did what the public wanted to see---That is a true champion, one who shares a legacy with those who ultimately benefit from it.....the fans.
To be considered the greatest, one should be great to watch. PBF's performance was very good, but knowing his capabilities it could have been much better and much more entertaining. It seemed as if just winning was good enough for him on saturday instead of winning big. Being BOOED is not a sign of one being a "great".... and on saturday night there were many boos in the arena, and probably tons more at the homes of many boxing fans as they watched the lackluster fight.
