What seperates boxing from other sports is...

that it's something that isn't a game. When I played basketball and would lose, my Mom would tell me not to sweat it cuz it's just a game. She didn't say that when I would get an ass kicking in sparring though.

Boxing is more than a sport, in fact I believe it defies the limits of sports. It's as serious as cancer, it is a metaphor for life. The same characteristics in your heart are what determine your success in there.

You can go up to a friend and play some pickup basketball for fun. You don't spar for fun, sparring is always serious because of what is at risk. Boxing is what all other sports aspire to be.

I was thinking about this at a Little League Awards Ceremony that my hotel hosted last night. They were all proud like they had ****ing done a damn thing. All other sports are soft in comparison, maybe except for Football and UFC. But boxing is more concentrated in the competitive field because you explore the boundaries of your mortality.

I used to leave basketball practice feeling good because it was fun, I was playing ball. I would leave the gym feeling like a man, like an honest grown man who has something to be proud of. Boxers are weird, we actually think it's fun to do some of that crazy ****.

Was trying to explain this to a friend of mine recently. In fact I made a thread about it...

in boxing it is just you and your opponite no one to back you up if you get stunned boxing you cannot take you consentration off your opponite or your lights go out and you cannot rest like you can in other sports exept when your cornor is working on you.

In other sports, when a guy is unable to continue you substitute him. In boxing, you're out. You lose right then and there.
