Why Do People Hate the "Art" of Boxing?

Boxing is not a one way sport. I think people watch movies way too much. All boxing movies are like Rocky, a guy who is just slugging it out all the time. No one wants to make a movie about a guy who is in there slipping punches, blocking shots, moving gracfully and so on because it wouldnt sell.

How come you guys dont love the art of boxing? I love to see a guy who can hit without getting hit and knows how to move. I love seeing how a little guy can beat a big monster by out thinking him, out moving him, and outboxing him. I love the fact that you dont have to have one ounce of power to be able to beat the hardest hitting guy in the world. Thats what makes this sport great but yet when people see guys like that they hate them and think that they suck or are frauds. Why?

I love watching guys like Sweet Pea, Floyd, Malinaggi, Spinks, Quintana, and so on. These guys are purest. They have mastered the sport but people rip them for it. I can understand fans doing it because alot of them dont know the sport and they think that everyone is supposed to be like Mike Tyson but how can guys who have been in the game for years like the media or Merchant think the same way? All Merchant loves is guys like Pac Man and that crap is unfair. You dont have to fight that way to be great.

I think alot of it also has to do with the fighter and the opponent. Alot of people just hate Floyd anyway & alot of people will boost Baldy up but once Floyd kills him then they try to play him like garbage but if Oscar fights the same way against Tito then he was brilliant? I dont get it. People think a guy like Spinks is a ***** because he doesnt slug it out with Mayorga or Karmazin. Why would he do something dumb like that? Why does he have to fight there fight to get credit?

I remember reading a article naming some of the greatest fighters of all time and then at the end of it the guy said that "all of these guys are also exciting. If it was just about being good then I wouldve added the king of the borefest, Pernell Whitaker".

What kind of crap is that? You dont put the guy on your list because you thought he was boring and that means that he's not a real fighter or something? You dont have to KO guys to be a real fighter and Im sick of hearing guys get ripped for that crap

It's funny seeing everyone here bashing people for only liking brawls and for not appreciating the skillful boxers hating on Mayweather. People should be grateful that we can watch a fighter like Mayweather dominate everyone.

I learned to like the sweet science but when it comes down to it people want to see a war! when you think of boxing you think of people knocking each other out and fighting. Its cool to be so good and mastar the art of boxing but can you be skilledfull and ENTERTAINING? THATS THE DIFFRENCE!

who hates the art of boxing? this is a ****** thread from what i've read.

however, you mentioned Malinaggi! he just looks gay. perhaps that is why some people don't like him. i will agree - he does give off a fruity vibe. not that there's anything wrong with that.

          and it's Malignaggi, not mallinaggi.

Movies are about underdogs overcoming the odds. If Rocky was a slick boxer with very superior skills the movie indeed wouldn't sell
