Right you can be outspoken and brash without looking like an idiot. Ali did it all with a sense of humor. I get the feeling Mayweather is just downright serious about everything he says, from being the greatest of all time to not being sure ODLH's fights sell better than his.

the problem is that he condescends to everyone and ultimately it is his persona that is keeping him from becoming wildly popular

      Quick reply to this message
you're either white or mexican because me being black he doesn't "condescend" to me. he sounds like someone with supreme confidence in his ablities. the whole uppity ****** routine is coming from your own self insecurities

floyd will never be wildly popular..not in this era. Boxing isnt number one, hes not a one punch KO artist, hes from america, hes black, and those things play against him. Sugar Ray Leonard was popular during a time in boxing when people cared and personality mattered alot more than it does now as far as being all cool and nice and friendly, there was alot more at stake.

Nowadays, unless you have a flag to fly, you dont have ****. Being american isnt cool to people, it isnt appealing, so you have to play some other role to gain popularity in a sport that isnt the attraction it once was in america. Look at hatton, hes a humble guy, good fighter, nice personality, but he will NEVER have the following here in america that he does in the UK, even if he fought here his entire life, but if hatton was alive 25 years ago, and mayweather was alive 25 years ago, things would be ALOT different.

Look at jermain taylor, hes a great guy, a stand up mannered gentleman, win or lose, hes a good man, but he will NEVER Have that ultra popularity that others had before because the fact is, the sport isnt what it was here.

If your not waving the flag of some country outside of america, chances are your fan following will be minimal in comparison to someone who wraps a puerto rican/filipino/mexican/belarus/japanese etc etc, flag around them. In america, there is no fanfare when you win, you might get some small love in your hometown, but there is no 2000 man/woman/and child parade for a titlist. And being black is worse because people by now are used to ultra talented black athletes in nearly every popular sport, and black people themselves are used to seeing it themselves, most black people dont even get behind their own fighters..why?

Because they have michael vicks, reggie bush's, ronhaldinos, ryan howards, tiger woods, dwayne wades, shaqs etc etc etc.

Boxing in america just isnt what it was and in order to be popular being black and being american, you need a schtick and you need a serious personality or you get nothing, no matter how good you are.

              lol

floyd acts like a prick, but man you need to chill...

everytime someone dares comparing fighters from the present/recent past to the past greats, you get mad. which is weird cos your posts are usually well articulated 995 of the times

              get over it

ps: since you like classics, I would change from raw power to something better (any of the other two, my personal nod goes to fun house, but please raw power is... as they say on these boards... gay)
