I'm sorry but your chatting ****e mate. Since the Lacy fight and the advocation of British boxing back on ITV even old women where I work have been bringing him up.Not many boxing fans like Calzaghe in England, they never have and don't think they will.. a few months after the Lacy fight it was back to hating him. People just didn't (and don't) like his 'over-confidence' (how can it be over-confidence though if your whooping your opponents asses?!), slapping technique, his promoter or his dad.
Even as an amateur, nobody liked him for some reason. Hell even at school he was bullied. And the general public outside of Wales just do not know him (despite being one of the most talented sportsmen in Britain of the last 15 years IMO), because he's too introverted to do any publicity stuff. He had the looks to model anything, and in his younger days an attitude/arrogance in boxing to rival Naseem Hamed. He could of been so much bigger, and long retired.
It's a sad waste of a talent and career you could say, but Joe will argue his name will be in the record books and says you won't see another world champion reign for a decade in your lifetime. And that performance against Lacy was 25 years of dedication and frustration, and will be shown as a masterclass in many years to come, I hope.
That's bollocks.Comment

A simple look at viewing figures will show you that nobody in England had a clue who Joe Calzaghe was, until his last three fights. He was only getting a few hundred thousand watching his fights on British Sky Sports, and apart from a handful on Showtime they weren't shown anywhere else. Compare that to Eubank drawing over 1 billion viewers world-wide for the Benn rematch and demanding 20 million on ITV in Britain every time out (when the entire population was only 50-55 mill)..
If you asked the man in the street who Joe Calzaghe was and, sorry, but they wouldn't of had a clue. Maybe one in a million..Last edited by GEOFFHAYES; 11-02-2006, 11:57 PM.Comment

Look at Calzaghe's total career earnings - £4million! Absolutely nothing when you compare that to Naseem Hamed's £40million. Eubank could sell out any arena in Britain in under 24 hours (with the highest priced tickets in the WORLD), Calzaghe has never sold out an arena in his life yet. Infact, most of the times Calzaghe has fought in England he's been boo'd out the building by British boxing fans.Last edited by GEOFFHAYES; 11-03-2006, 10:15 AM.Comment

Absolutely pathetic to suggest anybody outside of Wales and outside of British boxing fans would know who Calzaghe was when only a few hundred thousand would watch his fights! Leave your ****ing bedroom!Comment

My mum knows who Joe Calzaghe is now, because she fancies him! Since he's been on ITV. But he says it himself "I was anonymous for 13 years". He says he gets recognised all the time in Wales, but "never" stopped in the street elsewhere, and has "never ever" been recognised whenever he's been in London. And how would anybody know who he was when he was never on TV outside of his boxing fights, never even in the papers for write-ups on his boxing fights let alone anything else, and had zero personality.
But he's okay with that because he likes his privacy.Comment
