    Positive Signs for Boxing

I'm tired of all of this unnecessary negativity surrounding boxing. I don't know why people have to be soo doomsdayish about the sport. There is a lot of positive signs in the sport.

New superstars like Floyd Mayweather, Jermain Taylor, and Manny Paquiao are all starting to fill the void left by De La Hoya and Jones, and Tyson. This has been a bit of a transition period, and we are almost about to climb out of the transition period. There is a very rich pool of young talent in boxing.

Boxing popularity is increasing in Europe and Asia. The Phillipines is going boxing crazy because of Paquiao. There are all of these European fighters popping up and selling out arenas in Europe like Klitschko, Hatton, Kessler etc...

Boxing is climbing back into the mainstream. The Contender 2 was very successful, and there will be more seasons of it. This is a huge, huge plus for boxing that this show will continue to air. Also, Rocky 6 is coming in December. Plus there is rumoured to be another boxing reality show in the works produced by Jay-Z.

The only problem is the heavyweight division. The heavyweight division will climb out of it eventually. It is true that in sports involving big men, the talent is more split because big men have multiple options in athletics. However, this is getting way too exagerated and some people basically seem to suggest that any decent NFL player could have been heavyweight champion of the world. Ever seen Bob Sapp fight? He sucks. You don't see anybody saying that powerlifters aren't good athletes because if they were they would have gone into football. The top heavyweight fighters are very good world class athletes, and boxing is a skill sport. Just because Warren Sapp is strong and fast, it doesn't mean he could have been heavyweight champ.

In the next six weeks we have Klitschko-Brock, Mayweather-Baldomir, and Paquiao-Morales, and the superfighter tournament. In early 07 we will probably get Mayweather-De La Hoya. So this is an exciting time for boxing.

Agreed. The Heavyweight division looks to be in terrible shape, Golota needs to come back and get the title he's always deserved, however, my boy Maskaev is stepping up his game. I'm happy about that.

Golota sucks and always has ******. Bowe in top form would have handed his ass to him. I think Evander Holyfield, shot as he is, could beat Golota just by walking through his shots and hitting him back. Golota has no nerve or heart; he is a complete joke as a fighter and should save himself from further humiliation and never come back. His best bet if he somehow gets ranked again is to go after Toney or Byrd because every time he gets cracked by a puncher he folds like a napkin.
