New to the forum so this may have been done before, but who wins? I'm not sure who I would go with in this one, what about everyone else?
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Ricky Hatton

I don't see anybody beating Hatton at 140.
His level of performance against Phillips, Tackie and Oliveira IMO was incredible. Phillips and Tackie were established guys in the division who the likes of Cotto and Mayweather weren't exactly keen to fight. Phillips threw a hell of a lot of dangerous right crosses and Tackie was a beast on the inside.
Hatton just systematically beat Phillips down, it was a systematic beatdown and he showed great variety of punches and volume of punches throughout. Then came Tackie, a fight the US boxing people were shocked Hatton was taking because Tackie was so dangerous in a phone booth, but Hatton shows his mastery of distance and timing and a left jab that never missed once. Then Oliveira who had set CompuBox records with ammount of punches he threw, yet could hardly get any shots off against Hatton, and was stopped for the first time in his life in a fight where Hatton blows you away with his technical skill. Then comes Tszyu, thee fighter who was wrong for Hatton IMO and a guy I picked to knock him out inside five rounds, yet Hatton found ways to neutralise Tszyu getting his right hand off and extending his elbow, and made the best 140lber ever and reigning lb4lb #1 (according to many) quit on his stool like a *****. Then came Maussa, one of the most awkward fighters you'll see, and Hatton again finds a way to win - they felt Maussa couldn't fight backing up. That was a beaut of a one-punch KO.
Hatton is perpetual motion who has proved everything, ability to adapt (eg Magee fight), ability to withstand (see the bombs the gangly Quiros caught him with, right hand he launched into cold against Magee, that unreal right uppercut Phillips caught him with, and punches a natural welter in Collazo got through with), and abnormal stamina (due to a hole in his heart) - he can go 15 rounds all-out on the bodybag, and when I say all-out I do mean ALL-OUT.. and the bodybag, with all that padding is like punching a pillow, which is much more tiring that hitting something solid. That's not to mention a great variety of shots, usage of angles, footwork, ability to step off or step around to load up punches or open an opponent up, and those lethal bodyshots that cause opponents to piss blood.Comment

I don't see any former super-featherweight withstanding Hatton's bodyshots. And Hatton will get through, he has no respect for Mayweather's strength or power.
I'm putting money on Hatton, quite a lot infact.Comment

I can hear you all now saying 'Mayweathers too fast, Mayweathers too fast', well Forget the ****ing Collazo debacle because Hatton had zero speed on the night (due to having to put on 7lbs of muscle in just five or six weeks!).
Hatton was lightning fast himself in his day, hopefully he can rekindle some quickness. And Hatton has great agility too, and beautiful balance and anticipation.
But against Mayweather, I think it'd be all about tempo, making it physical and positioning - all geared to getting his bodyshots off.Comment

And Ricky can honestly live with Mayweather in terms of standing and 'boxing' - I don't think he will choose to stand with him, he'll be more swarming for sure and look to clinch and release to get some bodyshots off - Hatton has some sublime skills: he can move in and out of range effortlessly well, he throws left hands at different angles (jabs turned into hook/uppercut-types), and in the Tackie fight for example the way Hatton positions his hands you can't tell what punch is going to be released next.
So Hatton has different dimensions if needed.Last edited by GEOFFHAYES; 10-27-2006, 07:42 AM.Comment

Margarito would slaughter Hatton, Ricky is a light-welterweight. If he fought Margarito at welterweight as a light-welterweight, he'd blown out of the water.. so he'd have to pack on more muscle so that he could stand up to a natural welterweights punches - and this would just slow him down too much (ala Collazo fight).Last edited by GEOFFHAYES; 10-27-2006, 07:03 PM.Comment

Hatton is too strong - mayweather is a ***** who just wants to be a celebrity therefore not caring who he faces. Why would the P4P no1 go up to welterweight to face mitchell when at the time the 140lbs weight class was the best. antway this is all ****** talking about this fight for 2 reasons mayweather doesn't want it (dur to him being a *****) and mayweather is going to get KOed by baldomirComment

As much as I would like to say Hatton... I predict another Gatti type massacre for Mayweather.. people keep saying Hatton has the style to beat PBF... but after the Collazo fight.. and even seeing Hatton VS Eamon Magee I say Mayweather has the style thats all wrong for Hatton.. Hatton is very susceptible to Counter punchers..Comment
