BOXING ALWAYS GROWS WITH TECHNOLOGY
Alexandria, VA-Media technology curves have always been great for boxing. The growth of newspapers in the ‘yellow journalism’ age made stars of men like Jack Johnson and Stanley Ketchel with the sensationalism of the writing going hand in hand with the color of the personalities in the sport. Boxing grew with radio and it grew with TV, both curves fitting perfect with the relatively short time it takes for a fight to unfold and the action the best fights promise. The internet has been the exception. While fight trading has become easier in the on-line age, the technology hasn’t been sharp enough to make regular live fights practical (streaming video is often just not very good). We will find out next Saturday if the sport is ready to truly use the web when MaxBoxing.com goes live with the IBF welterweight title fight between Kermit Cintron (26-1, 24 KOs) and Mark Suarez (25-2, 13 KOs).
