To be devil's advocate, though, you can't take race and nationality out of boxing. Why? Because you can't take it out of life. If someone is living in New York but they grew up in a tiny village in Romania- a speck on the globe- and suddenly there's a bad ass fighter from their neck of the woods, well, they feel so much compassion, connection, and relation to that fighter they go nuts rooting for them. Rightfully, so, there is nothing wrong in having pride in where you came from.

The problem is not nationalist pride, or rooting for your countrymen. The problem- as is in all aspects of life- is the ignorant people who take it too far. Still, fans of all sports- football teams, etc. all have dumb people who just go overboard.

Summary: nationalistic pride in a fighter is fine- just don't be a moron about it. Don't be mad at someone rooting for a boxer solely because of their nationality- do be mad if they're an idiot about it.

I'd say that nationalism does not serve any useful purpose in the world. It is a systemic problem that the world has dealt with since we started drawing imaginary lines on the globe and called them borders. It really does nothing but segregate the people of the world, and convince some that people of different nations are not equal.

Nationalism really should not have any part in boxing. You watch the olympics nowadays, and they'd have you believe it is a competition between countries to see who can win the most medals. It's actually supposed to be a celebration of amateur sport and individiual achievement. I think the participants should not represent countries, but only themselves.

I think nationalism makes boxing all that much better.

Think about it, its one of the few sports aside from say World Cup soccer and Olympics that you can really represent your nation.

And its fighting, a battle, and the winner raises their flag up high while the loser goes home to try another day.

If there was no race and nationalism involved in boxing, it would be somewhat dull and boring i believe.

So boxing, in itself, is actually not interesting to you? It's really just a pissing contest between the nations of the world? Do you even like the sport?

If a fighter from your country wins a world title, what does that really reflect on your country?

Racism and nationalism are not the same thing, but they are very closely related.

I love boxing, and I love my nation even more, and when the two combine and we are victorious, nothing could be better.

Of course our World Champs mean ALOT to Armenia, a country with roughly 3 million people, we are very proud to have 2 World Champions in boxing and they are ambassadors to Armenia wherever they fight Worldwide.

Once they won, both Vic Darchinyan, and Arthur Abraham flew to Armenia to see their family, and both have been welcomed by the President of Armenia and all high officials at the airport.

I think our Champs do mean alot to our country because we are so small and not nearly as successful in sports on the world stage as many other countries.

this article may help you understand why nationalism is important and not forgetting where you come from.

VIC has touched alot of hearts in Armenia and is a true HERO to us.

You're from Cali, as i'am. So you've heard the rapppers Frost -a.k.a Kid Frost-, Proper Dos, Lighter Shade of Brown, and i could name a few other, but these rappers yelled, Mexican Power, Brown Pride and La Raza -a.k.a Mexicans. Well, i consider these songs classic, they were a hit and played on the radio if you remember. Well, from time to time, i'll bump Mexican Power by Proper Dos, and im sure you remember this song. One day i was bumping this song, loud of course, i go to the gas station and im pulling up to the pump and some white lady i see staring at me with an amazment of what he is hearing, of what i'am listening too and loudly at that. I swear i almost LOL, because her face expression said it all. I was thinking what i ain't supposed to bump this **** anymore **** off, **** was funny though, its one of those thing were you had to be their. I think she might be out of state or somthing cause their is a great Mexican/Chicano population in the city and i remember being younger and everybody was bumping these youngs and as i said they were on the radio. But yeah, if somone does say white pride, i think they'd get their ass kicked quick, the kkk, ****ed up any form of having white pride in public - ask me if i care.
