As a Pinoy, i have nothing against Mexicans. I compliment and congratulate Mexico for having a great tradition of boxing champions. As far as those Pinoys saying Pinoy boxers are better than Mexican boxers, their just nuthuggers who only started to like boxing when Manny beat MAB.
Philippines, at present, only have 3 ranked in the top 10 divisions: Pacquiao, Penalosa, and Mayol.
The problem with boxing in Philippines is it has to compete with basketball. Pinoys are more into basketball than boxing. Even though Philippines is not a powerhouse in world basketball, Pinoys have a passion for it. Almost everytown, village, or city, has their own league for youngster or adults every year. Even the Pinoys in the states are into basketball. Another problem is the overall pro boxing program. Most Pinoy pugs tend to go for the KO first instead of using boxing skills. The distance also from the US is a factor. Everybody knows in here, that the US is the center of boxing, u will tend to get more recognition and money if u fight in the US.
Hopefully, with Pacquiao exposure in the US, Pinoy boxing will improve.
