Was Calzaghe vs Lacy an Upset?

I think it may be a minor upset because more people expected lacy to win, former champions, writers, etc, calzaghe was actually the underdog wasnt he?

I was shocked but I don't think it was an upset.........Calzaghe did what he should as the Veteran and defending Champion.

At the time, it was a pick'em fight. I wouldn't consider an upset, but the result was very surprising to everyone. No one thought Lacy would get worked like that...

Just type in lacy vs calzaghe in the search and check out some of the posts leading up to the fight, this was a massive upset for the American's, however the majority of them were ****** enough to make predictions even though they had not seen Joe fight. We Brits knew that Calzaghe wasn't merely the "gate keeper", as Gary shaw described him.

It was a pickem fight at the time I think, but BoxingScene was definitly pro Lacy, so it didnt seem that way.

Nah I don't consider that an upset. Calzaghe has already established his career long before Lacy came into the picture so it's not an upset, but a big let down though for a lot of Lacy fans.

Ofcourse it was, Calzaghe looked absolutely awful against Salem (his head was all over the place) and snapped a bone clean off in his left hand against Ashira. He was a warrior with a big heart, willing to go to war and trade, even if he was knocked down he'd get up and trade again straight away.. that was Joe, a heart fighter, a heart fighter who had missed the boat years ago and was killing himself to make weight.

Lacy was the rightful favourite. Not because he was anything special, but because he was a beast puncher and Calzaghe seemed there for the taking.

What NOBODY (other than German's) actually saw though was Joe's career-best performance against Mario Veit last year!

I recently saw this fight (with German commentary) and Joe looks absolutely dazzling, just brilliant! No wonder Warren had that smirk on his face.. because Joe on that form Lacy hardly stood a chance - Warren said a few days after the Lacy fight that the only other time he'd known Joe so relaxed before a fight was before that Veit fight (last year).
