well, honestly if he's a true counterpuncher and that's what he relies on if he's an amateur he's going to have a rough time as i did. Amateur boxing is all about throwing punches not waiting for your opponent you want to press the action every round and throwing punches non-stop, the more punches you throw the more of a chance you have to land them and that's what amateur boxing is all about, putting that white strip on your opponents body.

i'm a very good counter puncher, i was relying on it heavily and learned my lesson that i cant wait for my opponent and pick him off, amateur boxing is too short for that kinda stuff.

Good luck. Just keep your guard up and don't let him make you look bad by landing to your face. Try to make every punch count and don't get lazy with the jab cuz a true counterpuncher will feast of a lazy jab. If your coach says you're not ready, take his word for it. No need to be in a rush, keep learning by experience. The more the better.

If you don't know what you should do then maybe you aren't ready. Not meant to be a knock on you but boxing takes time. You should do you and if this dude embarasses you then learn from that. If you whoop him then move on and take the lessons with you.

Work the jab and force him to be the agressor is what I would say.
