Joe Louis proved that size is overrated.

Rules of physics, and all that **** dont apply to Joe Louis...... -

Baer is an even better example because he was actually a very durable and hard hitting superheavyweight. Carnera had the skills but couldn't really punch and didn't have the chin Buddy had.
Very impressive performance by an all time great.Comment

Watch his fight with Nathan Mann in 1938 and you will see all of Joe Louis's flaws. As It happens Mann was not the right man to exploit those flaws.
...but Billy Conn was.....

Everyone has flaws of course. Louis just happened to be the best and most complete package the heavyweight division has seen IMO. And don't give me Ali as an example. Less than perfect punch, didn't have an uppercut, and couldn't fight on the inside. Ali was effective with his style but more flawed than Louis was.
No Louis wasn't perfect, but he's the closest anyone weighing 190 or more has come.Comment

i agree ali's style was more flawed if he wasn't so quick and didn't have that hall of famer jaw he would have lost. ALOT!Comment

Billy Conn ****ed up, he got brave with Lewis and payed for it. 2nd fight he had even less luck.
I've seen some of Louis fight clips, he has some very nice/fast combos.Comment

....yeah, that was Joe Louis's style. Way back in the 1930's they called it the "ol' one-two." He could hit a man so fast if you blinked you would miss it! But to put together a knockout combination he had to sit down on his punches. You may have noticed that Louis didn't have much head movement nor much lateral foot movement, consequently he wasn't all that difficult to hit. But as it happened he usually hit them first!Comment

The best defense is a good offense. That was the main principle behind the Joe Louis stalking style.Comment
