I think this is a good discussion because of what recently has happened and how we seem to see more and more fighters fight way below their natural weight. Should weigh-ins take place the day of the fights, a few hours before? I vote yes, the current system of day before weigh-ins is clearly being abused.

most boxers starve themselves before weigh-in to get the weight.
they would eat and refresh after the weigh-in and get ready for the fight. -
It is far safer to weigh in the day before and allow the body to re-hydrate prior to the fight.
Ok some fighters pile the pounds on overnight which does give them the advantage but if they can be disciplined enough to make the weight then.....Comment

I'd go with the IBF rule that fighters can not be more than 10lb above the fight limit at fight time.Comment

I dont think that would work. If and thats IF any post weight-in limit is imposed it would have to be a percentage of the original weight contracted weight.....i.e. 6%-10%Comment

Thosel who vote for same day weigh-ins are not very familiar with boxing history.
Weigh ins used to be done on the same day but too many fighters were getting injured because they did not have enough time to recover from draining themselves to make weight. Since they couldn't stop fighters from fighting below their "natural" weights, they decided to move the weigh ins so that fighters could recover and not get injured in fights.
The weigh in ceremonies are the day before precisely for this reason. To move them to the same day would be to ask for fighter injuries all over again. It is for a fighter's health that I'd like them to stay where they are.Comment

this is exactly why it should be the day of. they wouldnt drain and the fighters would actually be fighting closer to thier natural weight.Comment

OK, many people have brought up the safety issue of fighters being still dehydrated if the weigh ins are the day of the fight. This is a valid concern, but I think it should be addressed by the fighter and their team to make sure it doesn't happen. Also, I am sure there are ways for physicians who do pre-fight medicals to check for dehydration.
It is also, in my opinion, a big safety issue to have two guys fighting who are potentially 15 lbs apart in weight. Look at Gatti-Gamache.Comment
