I thought Emmanuel Stewart replied to that question (in the context of the heavyweight division by pointing out how most superior athletes are currently pursuing Football or basketball, etc. But boxing as an amateur sport just isn't appealing to a majority of young athletes. But there have been some fine technicians as of modern times: Bernard Hopkins, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard, I could go on! But whats missing from boxing that really pisses me off is an inability to Judge fights and render fair obvious decisions to the deserving fighter. I think if you look there lots of skill in boxing today.Comment

The answer is simple. People just don't care about boxing anymore. In the 1950's, you could find several boxing gyms in every gym and every neighborhood had fighters. High Schools and colleges even had boxing teams. That just isn't true anymore. Fewer particpants = lower talent pool.
Compare that to football, baseball, and basketball which are still practiced in highschools and millions of kids play these games. The talent pools for these sports are very deep starting with HS level and going up. Boxing is like a kiddy pool of talent in comparison with not even close to as many kids having exposure to it.Comment

We still rule boxing just looks bad that the spotlight is on the heavyweight problem. Yeah boxing isnt a top 3 4 or maybe even 5 sport. Boxing is found usually in poor city sides. Any1 would agree with that, and i dont think its going to change.Comment
