I'm guessing the first 20 rounds is just feeling out your opposition with the jab. Seeing what he has to offer.

Just think how long a fight with 45 rounds must have been.

The great Australian fighter, Young Griffo, reportedly fought Young Pluto for 70 rounds in a fight that started about 8 pm and ended at 2 oclock dawn. It is not clear who won. Griffo had earlier fought Pluto to a draw three times (8, 19 and 13 rounders).

Speaking of draws, Griffo fought Chiddy Ryan for 43 rounds only to have the fight declared a draw.

Facing Frank Silver in Sydney, Griffo KO'd Silver, but not before the 49th round.

They sure as hell weren't 3 minute rounds. A round would end when a KD occurred, or the fighters decided to rest. Not Queensberry rules, as far as time. Other factors too.
