I think Toney would outbox Valuev and win the fight BUT the Judges would give it to Valuev and the crowd would boo the decision.

I just can't envision Toney outboxing Valuev. Peter was much smaller than Valuev and not that great with his jab but he had no problem finding Toney. These taller guys just don't have much trouble finding him with the jab. Rahman had a lot of success with that punch as well. I think Valuev will pretty much land at 40-50% rate with the jab and knock Toney back with each one that lands, keeping him off balance. If he trades on the inside or wastes energy trying to take Toney out when he's on the ropes, he could be in for some trouble but if he keeps his cool and boxes on the outside, he will pile up the points and make an easy night of it.

Remember that the 6'7" 270 lb Carnera beat the vastly superior 5'11" Loughran because of his size advantage. It is no insult to the 5'9" Toney's skills to say he would get outboxed by Valuev.

I really can't see Toney outboxing him or outfighting him unless Valuev spends the entire fight at close range which would just be ridiculous. More likely he does what Rahman and Peter did when they were most effective, nailing Toney with the jab on the outside, cauing the smaller man's counter right to miss because he's off balance, and then strike with a counter of his own.

The reason Carnera beat Loughran in a very close fight is because he accidently stepped on Loughran's foot and broke a couple of his toes! After that Loughran could move very well. Even if Valuev broke a couple of Toney's toes, Toney still has a chance because his style is based on movement from the waist whereas Loughran prefered to move from the feet.

Valuev is an extremely crafty fighter believe it or not. A big guy that initiates the clinches!!!

If you are 6'8 or shorter, your face will be smothered in that enormous, hairy, Russian torso.

Also Valuev doesnt blindly chase an opponent around the ring. He moves his arms while the other guy is moving both arms and feet sticking and moving, losing energy.

I think he could beat anyone apart from Peter and Klitschko.

The skill differential between the two fighters is insane, but there comes a point when size really does make a difference. Toney would first of all, need to come into the fight in good shape, because stamina would play a big part in the fight. Toney has a chin, no question about that, so taking a shot in order to land two or three shouldn't be a problem.

I'd favour the 219lb Toney who deafeated Evander Holyfield, but the size difference is so big, it can't be ignored. It's not a fight i'd want to put any big money on.

Expect to hear Toney calling out Valuev in the near future!
not for another yeari think. Isnt that when his WBA suspension is up? Besides Toney gonna retire soon anyway. He hasnt won a fight in a long time now and is just getting fatter and older

JT is more than one foot smaller than Valuev and is outweighed by 100 lbs\. No contest. I thought Toney won the Peter fight, but just barely. SO, how can he beat Valuev? Personally, I think Toney is DONE. He should slim down, move down to cruiserweight, and fight Herbie Hyde and/or RJJ.

I really don't know what to think of that matchup. I think Valuev is too big for a small heavy like Toney. Toney is not a big guy relative to a normal heavyweight. I think Valuev would tire him out quickly just by clinching and leaning on him. I don't know if Toney could roll with a punch coming from a guy that's 100+ pounds heavier than him. I really like James Toney, but I think the size difference is probably too big.
