hes a cheat cuz hes aiming for joe louis' title reign by beating nobodies and bums like he has been doing his whole career. and hes a slapper on top of that.
You remember Louis had the bum of the month tour right?

And besides, louis made 25 defenses of the undisputed title. Calzaghe has only made like 15 of the WBO belt and he has yet to make 1 of the IBF belt.

Having to fight 4 times through a broken hand have probably made him a bit twitchy when it comes to injuries, so you can't blame him really. It's well known he's a very introverted person so I'm not surprised he's turned down a lot of PAs and the like - it's not for everyone after all. You do need to be a self-publicist though in boxing, and that has done him some serious harm in that respect.

Anyway, 5 million sterling is a lot of cash - especially in the Gwent valleys. He's already got all the money he'd need ... although I suspect he'll double or triple that with two or three megafights in the next year or two. At least I hope so as he deserves it.

So Kessler dodged him as well as Jones and Hopkins eh. Heh heh heh.

Look at Calzaghe-Reid. Calzaghe has hardly fought a technically sound fighter his entire carreer. Now - I think Calzaghe is a great fighter, but it is just a fact. Kessler is Reid times X and that spells trouble for Calzaghe. Much of the aura now surrounding Joe comes from performances agaisnt technically limited fighters. Put Joe in with Mundine, Bute or Kessler and we would get an answer. So far the jury is still out - noone knows how Joe would react if he got in there with a good technical fast fighter. Reid is the closest we come to an answer .. and Joe was not convincing in that fight.

Mundine? WTF?!?!?! Can anyone explain this one to me?
Bute - a talent, but nowhere near ready yet.

If the jury is out on Calzaghe due to the level of his opposition (a list that is quite impressive if you actually look at it), then what does that make Kessler based on his opponents? If he can take apart a technically exceptionally gifted fighter like Woodhall then I fail to see how you can say that's a weakness.

I like the way this Robin Reid fight is being used as a stick to show that Calzaghe is rubbish ... a fight that was only given as a split decision due to one hometown judge going with the home favourite and the two foreign judges giving it to Calzaghe by 6 rounds! Hell, even Reid himself said directly afterwards that Calzaghe was too good and too quick for him. Of course, he's changed his mind years afterwards when he realised that he conceded defeat to the one local fighter who can make him some money but then that does tend to happen.

Kessler would be a good fight next for Calzaghe, if only to unify the belts. If Lacy was unproven (not that anyone was saying that 8 months ago), then what does that make Kessler?

That is true. Perhaps it could be said that Kessler has not shared the ring with a real heavy ****er type like Markussen, Green or Lacy. Likewise Calzaghe has never shared the ring with a technically good and fast fighter like Kessler.

However if they meet - Calzaghe is not a ****er type so we will not get the answer to that in their fight, whereas Kessler is very technically sound and fast - so we will finally get Calzaghe tested there.

Yes he has. As good as Kessler? No-one knows as Kessler is pretty untested to date.

Calzaghe can **** with the best of them. Maybe not as much as he could a few years ago, but ask Lacy if he can still **** ....

Calzaghe is technically better than Kessler, and is faster as well (p4p one of the quickest boxers around).

The only type of fighter who I could see giving a focussed Joe Calzaghe problems is a crafty counter puncher with some dig, Bernard Hopkins for example. At the moment Kessler is just Calzaghe-lite.

Mundine? From what I've seen of him he's like a Roy Jones clone with his style. Not exactly a textbook technician! Kessler and Bute look competent, but nothing special.

Joe's been in there with many good technicians, Richie Woodhall was not a very gifted fighter but an excellent technician and pure boxer who's chief weapon might of been his speed, David Starie and Mario Veit were both stand up boxers with good technique too. Starie was pretty quick.

Remember, Joe broke his hand in the fourth against Robin and still beat him clearly, one-handed. And back then Reid was excellent, beating the likes of HENRY WHARTON.

Reid and Woodhall were the second best in the division when Joe fought them (behind Joe), IMO, and both were boxers and counter punchers.

But yeah Joe is definately at his best against fighters who are shorter than him and come-forward fighters so he can pick them off with fast combinations.
