    • Corrales comments on weight!
"I pretty much killed myself to be here"
"I grabbed Casamayor’s hand after the weigh-in and apologized," said Diego Corrales after failing to make the 135lb lightweight limit, thus forfeiting his WBC title on the scale. "It’s not something I tried to do. I’ve been trying so hard to drop the weight, I was almost at the point of passing out this morning. Honestly, I’m responsible for my actions. I believe if you make a mistake, you should be punished. I made a mistake and should be punished. When I was at the 147 area a few weeks ago, I knew it might be tough to get down. I got down a bit and thought I might get there, but I just couldn’t crack 142 pounds. Every day, I trained, ate salad and still weighed 142 pounds. I was actually afraid I was going to pass out today – I worked out three times with no food or water. I just got done working out for two hours and only lost half a pound. That pretty much sums it up. I pretty much killed myself to be here at this fight." Corrales' trainer Joe Goossen added, "Monday was his last meal and it was a little bit of tuna and small salad. He’s been sucking on ice chips since."
I don't see how Corrales can say this after Castillo said the same thing and Corrales said that it was bull****.

      It really pisses me off.

Corrales must feel like ****, and it makes me feel good. I like Corrales, don't get me wrong, but for him to do this makes me hate him now so much. He should be so much more disrespected than Castillo ever was now. Now I hope he gets KTFO again, and then retire. Castillo is a very nice person, but he must be laughing the **** out of himself right now. Now there has to be a Castillo-Corrales III. Both have caused controversy and anger, both have come overweight and fined. Two very similar stories, two very hungry fighters, they will fight for the last chance to redeem themselves on the two-year anniversary of their first legendary fight, Cinco de Mayo, May 5th, 2007. That sounds like the headline by Showtime right there.

Oh, and Diegofuego, in your ****en face!!! Don't ever come back on here you disgrace. If I even here an excuse from you I swear..........
Damn! I enjoyed reading your post, great post.

Corrales must feel like ****! Castillo is probably laughing or thinking, "I told you, i told you, I tried making weight but you didn't belive me, i told you.........karma is a *****!"

Robbed of a big payday when his last opponent couldn't make weight, Corrales vowed never to disgrace the sport by not being at the proper weight himself.

So what happened on Friday? Corrales weighed in a whopping 5 pounds over the weight limit for his WBC 135-pound title defense against Joel Casamayor.

"It's terribly ironic," promoter Gary Shaw said. "I'm shocked. I don't know what to say."

Corrales lost his title on the scale and will be fined by Nevada boxing authorities for not coming close to the weight. But, after agreeing to give up some of his $1.2 million purse to Casamayor, the fight will go on Saturday night.

The WBC ruled that Casamayor can win the title by beating Corrales, though Corrales can't keep it by beating Casamayor. In addition, if Casamayor loses, he would fight a top contender -- interim titlist David Diaz -- for the vacant title in his next fight.

The fight was in doubt after Corrales weighed 140 pounds, then came back a short time later and weighed 139½. He was given two hours to get down to 137, but made it only to 139.

Casamayor's purse for the fight was $250,000, but in addition to getting an undisclosed sum from Corrales for his trouble, he will also collect half of the $240,000 fine (20 percent of his purse) levied by the Nevada Athletic Commission against Corrales. The other half of the fine goes to Nevada's general fund.

Also, the fighters must weigh in again Saturday at noon, at which point neither fighter can weigh more than 147 pounds. If they do, it will cost them $25,000 per pound.

"I grabbed Casamayor's hand after the weigh-in and apologized. It's not something I tried to do," Corrales said. "I've been trying so hard to drop the weight, I was almost at the point of passing out this morning. Honestly, I'm responsible for my actions. I believe if you make a mistake, you should be punished. I made a mistake and should be punished."

Representatives of both fighters didn't take long after the weigh-in at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino to come to an agreement on Corrales paying Casamayor some of his purse. But Shaw declined to say just how much of the purse Casamayor would get.

Corrales said he tried everything to lose weight, and that some tuna and a salad was his last meal on Monday. Since then, he said, he had no food or water, sucking just on ice chips.

"My body just wouldn't let anything go," he said. "It just wouldn't."

The 6-footer said he had planned to leave the lightweight division after the May fight with Jose Luis Castillo, but after that was postponed he stayed at 135 pounds so he could get a more lucrative payday against Casamayor, against whom he is 1-1.

It was the third straight fight for Corrales that hinged on a weigh-in. For the first time, though, this one was his fault.

Castillo couldn't make weight twice against Corrales, and the second time Corrales refused to fight him at the higher weight, costing himself a $1.3 million payday.

Castillo was later fined $250,000 by the Nevada commission and suspended for the rest of the year.

When Castillo couldn't get within 3 pounds of the weight for the last fight, Corrales said he wanted to punch him for not making the weight. A few days ago he said he didn't regret not fighting because it would not be fair for a bigger fighter to fight a smaller one.

"I stood on level ground and explained to everybody if he didn't make weight there wouldn't be a fight," Corrales said. "I made the right decision."

Shaw said he personally checked on Corrales 10 days ago to see if he was on track to make weight, and the fighter weighed just a shade under 142 pounds. Fighters generally tend to lose several pounds in the last two weeks before a fight, so Shaw said he wasn't concerned.

Corrales was supposed to return to the ring Saturday night for the first time in nearly a year. It didn't figure that his opponent's weight would be a problem because Casamayor knows something about making weight from being on the Cuban national amateur team.

And Corrales had always made the weight in his career, despite being a 6-footer carrying the weight of a much smaller man.

True to form, Casamayor weighed the class limit of 135 pounds. But the weight of his opponent was a shocker.

Corrales gained fame in a May 2005 fight against Castillo that has already become legendary.

Both fighters have a lot at stake. For Corrales, it's proving that his knockout loss to Castillo in their rematch was a fluke. Casamayor, meanwhile, must show he still has his superb boxing skills and reflexes at the age of 35.

"I expect a war out of him," Corrales said. "For some reason they find glory and their old youth when they fight me."

Casamayor (33-3-1, 21 KOs) stopped Corrales the first time they met, knocking him down twice and finally winning in the sixth round when bleeding caused by a faulty mouthpiece left Corrales swallowing blood. But Corrales (40-3, 33 KOs) also knocked Casamayor down in that fight, and came back to win a decision by outboxing him in their second fight.

He is a 2-1 favorite this time in the fight for the WBC lightweight title, but the crafty Casamayor believes the odds should be reversed.

            From ESPN
The bold highlight is pure bs from Corrales, i've seen a few interviews and articles where Corrales says he won't mind fight Pacquiao or Diaz and see whats next for him at lightweight, in other words Corrales still wanted to fight at lightweight, but know he changes his tune. And for the record, Corrales didn't stay at lightweight just to fight Casamayor, Casamayor humiliated Corrales on tv, to get the fight against Corrales. And besides their some other bs that Corrales is spitting but im sure you all are aware of this already.

            Thanks for the article.

This is true. Corrales said he wasn't ready to move up to 140 yet. I guess he has no choice now.

There was Castillo killing himself to make weight and nearly collapsing to get on the scale for their third fight, and Corrales said it was bs and that he was faking it etc.

He said no to the fight... and there was no fight.

Now here is Corrales excusing himself by saying how he killed himself to try and make it and how he was feeling like he was going to pass out.

But Casamayor like a true warrior is not pulling out and is gonna go through with it.

Even more ironic and awesome it would be if Casamayor beats Corrales tomorrow. All the **** he's talked about how Castillo should have been fined etc despite Goosen acknowledging that Castillo shouldnt have been the one fined but his handlers and promoters for they put him on the spot. Especially since Castillo has been wanting to move up for years but arums kept him on the lightweight division with big money promises at the expense of his health.

Corrales and some of his fans basicly wanted Castillo hanged for not making weight and look what ends up happening, just crazy......I said before the weigh in inccident that i will be rooting for Casamayor, and i think i will still be rooting for Casamayor to win, Corrales has been talking made **** about Castillo and for this to happen to him, unbelivable.

Im sure the Neveda State Comission will also SUSPEND, Corrales as they did to Castillo, though i didn't like the idea of Castillo suspended and i wouldn't like to see Corrales suspened cause his body couldn't lose the weight, BUT! For all of Corrales **** talking towards Castillo, i will be in aggrenced to a Corrales suspention.

                Now!

Goossen, Corrales trainer was real cool about the situation about Castillo by not putting the blame on Castilo, but Castillos trainers - in a recent interview. And this is where i kind of feel bad for Goosen who trains Corrales....
