I agree. Tyson was the baddest boxer on the planet at one time.

You know how many people are boxing fans now because of Mike Tyson? Just think about it, after Ali left who braught excitement back to the sport? Tyson is a legend. Has he been a great person? No. Did he live up to what he could have been? No. Was his career entertaining? Yes.

After 1990 he brought boxing down. Soon he was just a freak show who people watched to see what he would do next - not what marvellous boxing skills he would display.

            Two Thoughts:

            1. Mike Tyson wasn't even Mike Tyson for as long as he should have been.

            2. Floyd Patterson is still the youngest man to win the lineal/undisputed World Heavyweight Championship.

1996- Holyfield vs. Tyson- great fight, great show. I don't think its fair to say he braught boxing down either. Boxing is still here today.

You can't blame Mike for the belt being seperated....Patterson didn't have to unify it because there was only one belt...Mike went after all the belts, didn't hold any hostage.

                  But people watched, didn't they?

People on the street know his name, but most likely don't know the current crop.

Mike didn't take down boxing, that is just an excuse for the lack of talent and interest.

After seeing the Tyson show, it is hard to see another...you have to have another top talented fighter, both in skill and personality to raise it up.

Other athletes have "embarrased" there sports, yet they didn't have the ability to take their sport, yet Tyson has the power to take down a sport like boxing...a sport filled with convicts and corruption

I got no beef with Mike, Abe; and you are correct in Mike's desire to unify.

That was just my way of reaffirming Floyd's place in history...he's still got the official record.
